20 Entry Ways That Will Make You Wanna Stay

The entrance to a home or building has many names: entryway, foyer, lobby, portico, vestibule. In German it’s known as the “vorhalle,” or “fore hall,” and in Italian it’s referred to as “ingresso,” or “entrata.” Whatever you call the entry to your home, it serves as your guests’ first impression of you and your family.

The entry also acts as a buffer between the outside world and the safety of your home. This break between worlds allows you to shift your attention to a new setting and relax.

In Feng Shui, the entry to a home holds the utmost importance. Comfort and safety are two of the most important tenants in the Feng Shui tradition. So, the entryway or foyer should enhance feelings of well-being and protection.

Whether it is big or small, the entryway can also be functional. It is a high-traffic area and should offer storage for items like umbrellas, keys and rain boots. At other times the foyer is the ‘show-off’ space, a wow effect that prepares you to admire the art of the interiors.

Let’s take a look at a few of my favorite concepts for entryways. These spaces not only invite you in, but they also make you want to kick your shoes off and stay a while… If not that, you get to take a deep breath while waiting to be offered a glass of champaign…
