Soak it Up!

Did you know that January  is the month to Soak it Up?—I bet you didn’t know that January 8th is National Bubble Bath Day! Cold winter days are perfect for bubble baths, and are awesome for muscle relaxation, stress reduction, skin care, pain relief and detoxification of the body–plus a lot of fun! It’s obvious, I am a huge fan of bubble baths. I relish the opportunity to get a good soak in before bed. It takes all the day’s tension out of me and sets the ground for a good night’s sleep.

Often times people ask me if bath tubs are still in, as many people nowadays take only showers. And I would always say: Absolutely! I think bathtubs are an essential part of a well-equipped house; the are a must for what is considered a ‘full bath’. I believe every house should have a bathtub, even if it is only for resale purposes. Especially families with kids and grand kids will always require a bathtub as it is the easiest (and the most fun) way to bathe children.


I remember when my kids were little, a bubble bath before bed was almost a ritual–the only way to wind them down and prepare them for bed. And yes, we had many floating toys and the classic yellow rubber ducks!


In my design projects, I always like to give some emphasis on the tub, as it promotes luxury, relaxation and pampering.


Bathrooms don’t need to be huge to have a bathtub. Here, a relatively small bathroom allows the luxury of a corner soaker that the owners really dig.


And some can be showcases. This is one of my favorite ones:


Nowadays, bathtubs come in many different shapes and styles. I love the classic claw foot tub, especially if the bathroom is accented with a fun contemporary light pendant.


But the clean lines of a free standing tub are also very appealing. For the last few years it has become a ‘must have’ for many homeowners and is considered the ultimate luxury.


Historically, bathtubs were known to be used in the ancient cultures of Greece, Rome and Egypt. People used them to take advantage of warm springs underground. There was an abundant provision of warm, soothing water that lent itself to the enjoyment and benefits of a warm bath. Even then people would use natural oils, fragrances and minerals to take advantage of the warm spring’s healing and comforting properties. image via AncientWorld

With the arrival of January, I am adopting a couple of new healthy routines, starting with my daily 16 ounces of pure, fresh celery juice, and having a salt bath soak 2-3 nights a week or more if possible.                                                                                   Here, I am going to share my favorite detox and skin moisturizing soak by Bren Did.


It is always fun to make your own soak recipe. It’s also nice to know you are using your own pure and natural ingredients. But if you are not a big fan of figuring out all the asking ingredients, there are certainly some ‘kits’ out there that will allow you to be a DIY bath pro…


Go ahead these cold January nights (even in Northern Florida where I live) to turn on the faucet and add some of your version of Mr. Bubbles, maybe some candles or flower petals and rediscover the joy of a long, luxurious soak and its amazing benefits! According to the National Calendar, the country has been celebrating the day since at least 1999. However, we’ve been unable to find the creator of the day. Maybe they’re still taking a bubble bath…
